Balcony Under Tile Waterproofing in West Hollywood Using AVM Systems
Integral Waterproofing with Nano Labs ARK and AVM 700
To enhance the durability of the structure, Nano Labs ARK was added directly into the concrete mix before placement. This integral technology reduces the permeability of the concrete from within. Once the substrate was prepared, we installed the AVM 700 system. Rather than a single coating, we applied multiple layers with fiberglass reinforcement embedded between the coats. This reinforcement improves mechanical strength while allowing the membrane to remain flexible enough to accommodate structural movement and thermal expansion over many years.
Completing the Under-Tile Waterproofing System
How do you waterproof a balcony before tiling?
The concrete surface must be properly prepared before the waterproofing membrane is installed. On this West Hollywood project, AVM System 700 was applied with polyester reinforcement beneath the finished tile installation to create a continuous under-tile waterproofing layer. Particular attention was given to drains, thresholds, joints, and other transitions before the tile work was completed.
What is the best waterproofing membrane for a balcony?
The appropriate waterproofing membrane depends on the balcony construction and the finished surface. For a balcony that will receive tile, a dedicated under-tile waterproofing system is typically used beneath the tile installation. On this project, AVM System 700 was selected for that purpose.
Why use Nano Labs ARK with an under-tile waterproofing system?
Nano Labs ARK is added directly to the concrete mix before placement, becoming an integral part of the concrete itself. After the concrete cures and the surface is properly prepared, AVM System 700 is installed over the concrete as the under-tile waterproofing system. This provides two different levels of protection: ARK within the concrete and AVM System 700 beneath the finished tile surface.
