Roof Deck Waterproofing in Santa Monica Using AVM 100

For this Santa Monica project, Surfacing And Waterproofing installed a complete roof deck waterproofing system using AVM 100. The system was designed to provide a continuous waterproofing membrane while creating a durable finished walking surface for the deck. With more than 25 years of waterproofing experience, our team understands the importance of proper preparation, drainage, detailing, and membrane installation on exposed roof decks.

AVM 100 Reinforced Roof Deck Waterproofing

Before the waterproofing system was installed, the roof deck was properly prepared and sloped toward the drainage points. AVM 100 was then installed as the primary waterproofing membrane, incorporating polyester reinforcement embedded within the acrylic waterproofing to create a continuous reinforced system across the deck. Particular attention was given to drains, transitions, flashing, and perimeter details before the finished surface was completed.

After the waterproofing membrane was completed, a textured finish was applied to create a durable walking surface. The deck was then completed with an AVM topcoat sealer to protect the finished surface and complete the roof deck system. At Surfacing And Waterproofing, we focus on proper installation and detailing throughout each stage to provide reliable, long-term performance.

What is the best waterproofing membrane for a roof deck?

The best membrane depends on how the roof deck will be finished and used. A walkable deck needs a waterproofing system that can remain protected beneath a durable traffic surface. On this Santa Monica project, AVM 100 was used as the reinforced waterproofing membrane beneath the textured finish and topcoat sealer.

The process starts with creating the right surface conditions before the membrane is installed. The deck must be properly prepared and sloped, then the waterproofing is applied continuously across the surface with reinforcement incorporated into the system. The finished texture and sealer are installed only after the waterproofing layer is complete.

Failures are often related to poor preparation, insufficient slope, weak detailing, incomplete membrane coverage, or damage to the finished surface over time. A successful roof deck system depends on each component being installed correctly so water is managed before it can reach the structure below.
