Basement Under-Slab Waterproofing in Malibu Using Paraseal® LG

For this Malibu project, Surfacing And Waterproofing installed Paraseal® LG beneath the structural basement slab before concrete placement, creating a continuous below-grade waterproofing layer beneath the structure. With more than 25 years of waterproofing experience, our team understands the importance of completing the under-slab waterproofing system before it becomes permanently concealed beneath the concrete.

Dual-Layer Protection with Paraseal LG and Nano Labs ARK

The Paraseal® LG system combines a durable HDPE membrane with expandable sodium bentonite for below-slab waterproofing protection. To provide an additional layer of protection, Nano Labs ARK was incorporated directly into the concrete mix. This integral waterproofing admixture becomes part of the concrete itself, providing a secondary level of protection within the slab. By combining the under-slab membrane with integral concrete waterproofing, the project benefited from complementary protection throughout the below-grade assembly.

Under-Slab Waterproofing Before Concrete Placement

Because this below-grade waterproofing system is permanently buried beneath the structural slab, proper installation is essential. Any future failure could require extensive demolition, making proper execution during construction critical. Our team carefully checked every seam, overlap, and penetration before any concrete was placed. Do I need a moisture barrier under a concrete slab?

For below-grade construction, an under-slab waterproofing system protects the structure from moisture intrusion beneath the concrete slab. On this Malibu project, Paraseal® LG was installed beneath the basement slab before concrete placement to create a continuous waterproofing layer below the structure.

The appropriate system depends on the structure, site conditions, and project specifications. For this basement project, Paraseal® LG was selected as the under-slab waterproofing system. It combines an HDPE membrane with expandable sodium bentonite, providing two waterproofing components within a single composite membrane.

For this project, we used two complementary methods. Paraseal® LG was installed beneath the structural slab, while Nano Labs ARK was mixed directly into the concrete as an integral waterproofing admixture. This provided waterproofing beneath the slab together with an additional level of protection within the concrete itself.
